Marilee D. Hazel: Biography

As a former assistant district attorney and successful private practice owner, Marilee D. Hazel (formerly Marilee Hazel Brown) provides clients with broad expertise in the legal process and a depth of trial experience when cases cannot be resolved outside the courtroom. She makes a difference by looking beyond the ordinary to find creative solutions that work in her clients' best interests. In private practice, her experience is drawn from handling hundreds of cases in the tri-county area.

For the past 17 years, Ms. Hazel has been a pillar of success in family law, probate and estate planning, and personal injury practice. Her expertise has been a game-changer in helping numerous clients successfully navigate high-conflict disputes. The firm's probate and estate practice is a testament to her dedication, with Ms. Hazel and her staff working tirelessly to protect clients' rights. Before establishing her private practice, Ms. Hazel served as a highly productive prosecutor in Lamar County, Texas. Her role spanned all aspects of legal proceedings related to felony and misdemeanor charges, giving her a comprehensive understanding of the legal system. She also served as the county's principal juvenile attorney, handling a wide range of cases. Her legal education includes a law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Languages from The University of Texas at Austin.

Marilee Hazel has argued cases in person before the Sixth Court of Appeals, including a nationally debated case in which her prosecution was argued and upheld at the Texas Supreme Court. In her appellate practice, she has represented clients in criminal matters before the Third and Thirteenth Courts of Appeal in Texas. Her DWI law and evidence writings have been published in the Texas District and County Attorney's Association magazines. Her writings on business torts have been published in the Texas State Bar's Business Litigation Journal.

Ms. Hazel has been licensed by the State of Texas since 2004 and licensed in federal courts of the Western District of Texas since 2011. Ms. Hazel is a long-time member of the State Bar College and State Bar of Texas Family Law Division.
